Grammy's Focus on Performances rather than Awards

I usually focus on the winners of each award show, but the Grammy Awards are completely different. This year, the absolute focus was on the performances by nominees and past award winners.

Starting off the show was a tribute to Aretha Franklin, performed by Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Hudson and Martina McBride. The compilation of Aretha's hit's lasted almost 15 minutes with outstanding vocals by all women.

By far, the best performance was Lady Gaga's new single, "Born this Way." Of course, her performances are always monumental, but this won was choreographed superbly and just hearing her lyrics that she 100 percent wrote by herself sent chills down my arms. I think that her song sums up the world- everyone is born different and you can't help being born the way that you are, but you should be proud of being you.

"Yeah, I agree, they definitely focused more on performances than the actual awards. I was switching back and forth between the Grammy's and Desperate Housewives for an hour, so I missed some of the performances but I liked most of them! I thought Lady Gaga and Katy Perry were pretty good, as well as Eminem and Dre, etc," Carly Behringer said. While I missed Katy Perry and Eminem's performances, Lady Gaga, as stated was sublime.

Yes, Professor Wilson, I do care about "Lady Gag Me"!

Ok, so I understand that this award show is all about music, but what makes it an award show if all it shows are performances. I have been watching the Grammy's for only 40 minutes and I am bored.

Please forgive me if this is the end of my post... I am bored and tired.

Why are the Grammy's able to get away as being called an award show when they give out less than 10 awards the whole night?

Stephanie responded to my demanding question with the same anger, but sense. "I think they give out so few awards to try to keep the audience entertained. Award shows drag with too many awards, but the same can be said if there are too few given out. I definitely did think the Grammy's were a disappointment this year.

  1. Okay, but you should be getting more comments. Maybe ask more snarky questions. For example: does anyone care about Lady Gag Me?

But yeah, they definitely should have given out more awards. Honestly, I was more interested in seeing who was winning than watching Justin Bieber and other artists that I really don't care to watch... haha!

  4. I think the Grammy's focus on performances more than awards so that non mainstream artists are able to be seen. There were several artists who performed where I've heard their songs, but now I could put a face to the song. I think it's so artists can be seen and heard.

  5. I just vented about this on Carly's music blog. I'm agree. Too many performances. And the performances are mediocre at best. I posted on Carly's blog that it's too much flash, too little talent. It's no wonder that there are some performers and award winners that we don't recognize.... not everyone in the mainstream music scene is actually talented. As seen in some of the live performances (with the exception of Gaga, Bruno Mars and a few others).
